extravagance of size

Definitely not a tournament play style topic? My question is, "How much is too much, when it comes to table size?" We have recently had a bloom in our playgroup size and I would love to have multiple tables running simultaneously but what do you do when you happen to hit the bad numbers of 6 or 7 players? Additionally what is the maximum size of a table that you would entertain, and what is the largest sized table that you have ever played at?

I am going to take this further even, do you think that it would be appropriate to limit or ban such destructive cards as Conservative Agitation or Parity Shift?

What other potential problems or rewards can shamelessly flaunting the table size bring?

Locally, we won't play a 6 or 7 player game. If we have a bad number of players, we will play 3 player games (if 6) or a 3 and a 4 (if 7).

Games are enjoyed when they are played to completion. The tournament rules have 4 and 5 player tables for very good reasons, and getting around to your turn is certainly one of them.

I've played in 7 and 8 man tables.

Having a large table is a double-edged sword. On the positive side it allows players to play through almost all their deck, and get out 4, 5, 6+ vamps on the board. In a standard game you might get 2, or 3 at the most. Occasionally you might pull off a 4th if you've been sweeping the table, but it is not common. I think it would be cool if I could bring out a Marcus Vitel, Lucita, and Gratiano, because there were more players to take out, and thus give me more pool.

The negitive, or other blade of the sword, is if you are one of the first people out then you have a LONG wait. The game could take 3-4 hours, depending on the decks being used. Whereas if it were a 4-5 player table you could get 2-3 games in during that same amount of time, of course depending on the decks being used.

  3. The long wait...

I think that at a table larger than 6 you would almost have to have a time limit in place. The old Con Ag would be a bit of a problem as well, but on the bright side there are 6 or more other players, some with votes, and it would be really hard to pull of a 7 - 9 point vote without the table soing what it can to stop you.

Different sizes will give a person different strategies to think about. What can be accomplished at a 4-5 person table might not work at a 7-9 person table.
